Photographing woodlands and forests can be daunting and challenging for many photographers.

How do you make sense of the chaos; what are the best conditions to shoot in; how do you make a picture of a tree or a load of trees look interesting and is it really only about photographing trees anyway?

In this new talk Simon introduces photographers to the surprising variety of images that can be found in the woodland – as well as the peace of mind and pleasure that can be had from simply being out in these lovely locations with a camera in your hand.

He shows photographers how they can look for different types of photographs in the woods and forests and how they can use light, perspective, shape, texture and detail  to create beautiful images.

The talk also introduces members to the work of some of the UK’s top woodland landscape photographers.

More about Simon

Born in Enfield, North London, Simon moved to Bristol in 2000. He has been developing his photographic skills for the last 15 years or so and has been able to give it greater focus since retiring early from a successful career in public relations and communications. Simon is a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society – a distinction secured with a panel of shots that arose from time spent photographing traditional artisans at work across Britain. He is currently a member of Bristol Photographic  Society and is working towards a panel to submit for his Associateship of the RPS. Simon is also a judge on the Western Counties Photographic Federation’s panel.
